Orthopaedic Disorders

Back pain and it's often associated problems of  neck and shoulder pain, headaches or dizziness is a very common condition seen in modern society. Whether caused by stress, poor posture, injury, arthritis, general wear and tear or some unknown cause, this can be a distressing complaint causing both chronic pain and restriction of movement.

Acupuncture can be very useful when therapy involving manipulation of the body is undesirable, too painful, or has been unsuccessful.  - It can provide safe, effective and gentle treatment, often reducing pain and increasingly mobility in just a few sessions.

Diagnosis is made by the location and nature of the pain, assessing the aggravating and relieving factors and trying to get to the underlying cause. Treatment is then based on invigorating the flow of qi(energy) and blood throughout the area in order to relieve pain, reduce inflammation and promote the body’s own healing ability.

Problems affecting the nervous system such as sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow particularly respond to acupuncture's ability to anaesthetise the area and reduce nerve sensitivity.

At our clinic we develop treatment plans according to both current symptoms and case history. We use acupuncture, complemented where appropriate with herbal medicine and Chinese massage.

Headaches & Migraines

Headaches often occur as a stress response to chronic problems elsewhere in the body, or as a side effect of the long term use of pain management drugs.  However some of the most severe form of headaches - migraines, are often related to an imbalance in the body's hormone levels.

Regardless of the type of the headache, and the signs and symptoms you present with, - the aim is always to normalise the activity in the brain through regulating hormones and neurotransmitters. The pituitary gland sitting in the brain produces endorphins,  - chemicals that primarily act as the body’s natural painkillers.

Acupuncture research shows that the insertion of an acupuncture needle in certain points on the body triggers the release of these endorphins, allowing drug free, lasting relief from some of the most persistent headaches.
